It’s a tie!

Hey Now Baby” from the album “Rock’n'Roll Gumbo” by Professor Longhair

Hell is Chrome” from the album “A Ghost is Born” by Wilco

JP’s song of the week

“Ain’t no more cane” from Bob Dylan and the Band’s “Basement Tapes”, recorded in the year of my birth, 1967.

Feeling very old fashioned and unplugged this week. Although there is an electric bass on the recording — but the accordion cancels it out. (An accordion always cancels out an electric bass. Didn’t you know that?) Anyway, this music feels handmade, because it is.

JP’s song of the week

Curtis/Live!“Mighty, Mighty, Spade and Whitey” by Curtis Mayfield, from the live album, “Curtis/Live!”, recorded in 1971 in my home town of New York City. The whole album is full of song-of-the-week-worthy tunes, but for some reason I like this one best.

Christian’s Song of the Week

In honor of Italian cyclist Bettini, who has won this year’s world championship, Christian proposes the Italian national anthem.
Viva Italia!

JP’s Song of the Week

“The Shoes of the Fisherman’s Wife Are Some Jive Ass Slippers” from the Charles Mingus album “Let My Children Hear Music.”

Let My Children Hear Music

I don’t have the slightest idea what Christian’s is. You’ll have to ask him.
